Philadelphia Air Service is Expanding

If you have taken a flight into or out of the Philadelphia area then you know the issue. The airport is one place where issues with the sheer size of the Philly area can be seen. The demand for air service can cause delays because of too few flights for so many travelers. Well, a recent announcement shows that the airlines are taking notice. Find out how Philadelphia air service is expanding.

This last week, Frontier Airlines made an announcement that show they are listening. They are expanding their service throughout the country. They are going to be increasing the number of flights available to forty-two US markets. Travelers in cities like Charlotte, Austin, Portland, etc. will see increased flight options. One area that is targeted by this expansion is Philadelphia.

They are adding a total of forty-two new routes. This is the same number of routes as the number of cities they are targeting. Philadelphia is going to benefit greatly from this expansion. Ten of the new routes will intersect the Philadelphia Airport.

Philly travelers will now have new routes to and from the following cities:
  •        Austin
  •        Cleveland
  •        Cincinnati
  •        Kansas City
  •        Nashville
  •        Milwaukee
  •        New Orleans
  •     Raleigh-Durham
  •        St. Augustine
  •        Indianapolis
These new routes won’t cost Philly travelers an arm and a leg either. Frontier Airlines is known as being a quality carrier that offers low rates. The new routes will help alleviate congestion in the area. The low fares will make air travel more affordable for some who drive because they airfares are out of their budget.

We don’t have to wait long for these new options. Frontier has announced that these new routes will start in April. I don’t know about you but I can’t wait to plan my next trip with lower airfare as an option. We are glad to welcome this announcement by Frontier Airlines and the expanded business it will bring to Philadelphia.

Race a Philadelphia Eagle at Sports Zone

There is no doubt that Philadelphia sports fans are die hard. You can’t go into a bar without hearing discussions about the local sports teams. During games, fans flock to their favorite watering hole to watch the game and heckle anyone not rooting for the local team. Well, Philadelphia sports fans can now do more than just watch sport stars.

A new exhibit allows Philly sports fans to test their skill against sports stars. Philadelphia Sports Zone has created an exhibit that provides a real life sports experience. The Sports Zone is located inside the Franklin Institute. This new exhibit lets you run along-side world class runners.

You also can test your skills against professionals from sports like football. Professionals that you can test your skills against include Jordan Mathews of the Philadelphia Eagles, Brian Talley (speed skater), Tatyana McFadden (Paralympic athlete), Richard Browne (Paralympic athlete), Dawn Grunnagle (professional marathon runner), among others.

This exhibit is the desire to mix Philly’s love of science and sports. Larry Dubinski is the CEO of the Franklin Institute. He describes the though behind the exhibit as, “Because Philadelphia is such a steadfast, loyal sports city and world-renowned science hub, the decision to design an exhibit on the science of sports was a no-brainer.”

He continues, “The technological advances in all areas of science overlap in all areas of sports. From the latest designs in athletic gear and equipement, to the rise in concussions and increased awareness in health and safety, this exhibit is an important and relevant one to bring to our visitors.”

The exhibit features a track that is forty feet in length. A countdown allows you to get ready to race the professional of your choice. This goes along with exhibits that Sportz Zone already brought to the Philly area. You can try to surf or score a soccer goal along with virtual professional atheletes.

There is no doubt that Philadelphia is a sports town. Our area has also been home to many scientific advancements. This new exhibit brings these two worlds together. For all our die hard Philadelphia Eagles fans, bring the family and test your skills against Jordan Mathews. It is sure to be a fun time for everyone, while still enjoying sports that you love.

Woman in Philadelphia Tired of Few Female Mechanics

You hear woman discuss the different industries that are male dominated. Some of these woman choose to address the inequality that they see. This was exactly the case with one local Philadelphia woman. She saw that there were few female auto mechanics in Philadelphia and decided to do something about it.

The heroin of our story is Patrice Banks. She became aware of the problem while looking to get her car worked on. She went on the hunt for a female auto mechanic in Philly. She soon realized that there were very few. In fact, her search through Philly didn’t turn up a single female auto mechanic.
Patrice Banks saw that there were very few female auto mechanics in the Philadelphia area. But, she did not just talk about the issue. Where others simple saw inequality, she saw opportunity. She decided to become an auto mechanic.

This move wasn’t exactly easy for Patrice. She is 34 with a family of her own. But, she was determined to address the issue. She knew she was the woman for the job. She quit her day job and went back to school. She earned her certification as an auto mechanic.

She was no stranger to hard work. She spent the last dozen years working for DuPont. She was a manager for the materials department there. She was not a woman that many would expect to go into auto mechanics. She describes herself as knowing little about cars before becoming a mechanic.
She didn’t stop there. She also saw the opportunity to become a small business owner. She opened one of the very few Philadelphia auto mechanic shops that is female owned. A wonderful feat for a woman that says she hadn’t very little interest in cars before starting this journey.

She didn’t start by simply starting a female owned auto mechanics shop. She also is on a mission to help other woman. She started Girls Auto Clinic. Through this group, she offers workshops for women about how to do their own auto maintenance. She also consults with them on a variety of auto related issues, such as finding a quality used car.

There is no doubt that some inequalities do still exist. In a time when most people are content to simply gripe about them, Patrice Banks stands alone. She saw a problem and decided to address it. She was undaunted by learning a new trade and starting her own business. She even uses her new knowledge to help other Philadelphia women increase their car knowledge. So, let’s support this female owned auto mechanics business in Philly.
